at the Falfield Anti-Gas School and should, for

preference, be a retired Army or Naval Officer.

4.

The officer appointed would be responsible for the carrying out of the following programme:-

(a) The recruitment and training of instructors,

air raid wardens and decontamination squad

personnel.

(b) The provision of gas masks and protective

clothing for decontamination squads.

(c) The provision of decontamination materials

and storage for such materials.

(d) The organization of public instruction, by means of lectures, leaflets, Press propaganda, "black-

outs" etc.

(e) The organization of an air raid warning system and

the provision of the necessary equipment.

(f) The construction of public gas proof shelters

and decontamination and first aid centres.

(g) The provision of gas masks for essential service

workers and their families.

(h) Arrangements for the local manufacture of gas

masks for sale to the general public.

(i) The gas proofing and splinter proofing of

Government buildings and buildings required

in connection with essential services.

(j) Arrangements for the provision of alternative

means of communication, alternative supplies of

power, light and water and for the organization

of the maintenance of essential services such

as 'bus, tram and cross harbour traffic.
